The winning diorama: The Celesbian Van

The winning diorama: The Celesbian Van

On Tuesday night, Farsighted & I went to Diorama Lodge at Freddy’s Backroom. The people there were very nice, all like, “This is your first time? Great! the glue gun is back there, there are extra supplies over here, you have 60 minutes, don’t worry, everything will come together…”

This week’s theme was “Search Party” and we spent half an hour gossiping, eating pizza, trying on & destroying costume jewelry from Farsighted’s office. Really fun! And then we noticed that everyone else was making complicated scenes and landscapes out of magazines, plastic toys (why didn’t I bring plastic toys?!), and Play-doh. Did I mention that at the end of the hour you have to put your diorama on display, give a one-minute presentation, and then everyone votes for a winner? And there’s a prize!?

This is what we made in the end:

Diorama Lodge: Lost in the Pit of Balls, by Farsighted & Wobblebox

It’s hard to see but there’s a little doll-head (which represents “The Lost”) in the bottom of the circles & beads (which represent the “Ball Pit”).

Um. I think people liked our idea. They laughed when Farsighted presented it (I completely wimped out) and she didn’t do a crazy prepared act like some other people did for their presentations. Some people have so much poise and self-assurance! The elementary-school atmosphere completely disappeared during the presentations.

Anyway, we didn’t win. I would have voted for the Celesbian Van too, but I felt like I could relate to our entry better. I’m sure we won second place though. The first-place prize was some alcohol.

Check out Farsighted’s take on Tuesday!

Also, I tried to take a video of the dioramas. I was pretty scared of all these people, like, you know how you can’t take pics in a museum or at some concerts? so… it’s hard to really see any of the dioramas in the vid. But I think it captures the tense electric charge in the atmosphere before the presentation segment of Diorama Lodge:
