Your blood pressure decreases, your chance of a heart attack goes down, food tastes better, you have more energy, your eyes will be brighter, etc etc. You are going to feel & look great!”
It’s not true! There are so many terrible things that happen when you quit smoking (see: “Quit Smoking Side Effects“).
It’s been 45 days since I last smoked and there’s this creeping gross choking feeling in my throat. I think it’s just post nasal drip, not cancer [initial self-diagnosis], what a relief. But it still feels terrible & I wish I knew how to do sutra neti (where a string is shoved up your nose & pulled out your mouth).
Also, why do lung detoxes involve puking? I don’t get it. Also, turmeric + hot water does not taste good. But better than Mucinex.

ah, the Throat Oyster. i have no idea where that name came from, but i remember it sticking in my head years ago so that when i quit and it happened, i was like, “ah yes, you. Throat Oyster.” as i recall it didn’t last all that long – you should be out of the woods before long!
also, the food thing is a crock, i think. i mean, i smoked a pack a day for ten years and food tastes pretty much the same way now (almost two years after quitting). but maybe i have weird tastebuds anyway?
agh! ‘throat oyster’ is such a grossly appropriate name!
i’m glad to hear the throat oyster doesn’t stay for very long.
about food tasting better – the only thing that’s made food taste different to me is eating totally different food (i.e., mostly raw vegetables with very little salt for a while made vending machine food taste chemically).
