Hooooooly shit all I wanted to do was make a splash page for a blog. More or less.

Making the front page a static page is very easy to do (Settings > Reading).

Making a page with all the blog posts (that used to be on the front page)…… is also pretty simple: you just have to cut & paste some code into a new (page template) blog.php file (which goes in your theme folder). Then you create a page in WordPress that uses the new template.

Grrr. I would have never searched for the title of that help article. It took hours to find it. I was looking for “Making a static link for blog posts” or “Displaying blog posts on a static page” or “Switching front page to static page” or “Querying for all blog posts” etc etc (I was trying to make a new page template that made a new WP_Query and displayed all the blog posts).
